Applying the Cynefin framework in an Education context

We recently hosted a workshop at The School Leadership Conference 2020 about the application of the Cynefin Framework in the complex realm of Education. Solving complex problems requires an adaptive, experimental and highly interactive approach with a tolerance for uncertainty. Cynefin is a useful framework for helping you to understand the situation you are in and to respond appropriately. We talked to education leaders about how they can use this framework to adapt their approach to the problem at hand to ensure the greatest possible chance of enabling positive outcomes for their staff and students. We wrote an article on the topic which you can read below.

We are also piloting a school optimisation program aimed at helping schools to respond better and adapt to the plethora of challenges they face in their environment. Learn more about the Education Excellence (EdEx) Program via the link below:

Lifting the hood on Our framework: ADDR

In this post we explain our Align, Discover, Do and Reflect (ADDR) Framework in greater depth. There is no silver bullet when it comes to problem-solving and progressive improvement. Our approach is to adapt what we collectively know to suit the task at hand and do so in light of the bigger picture. Why then, do we have a framework? Below the surface of the tools and techniques we apply, there is a degree of consistency in what we are essentially aiming to do. We designed ADDR to act simply as a guide to challenge and aid us during the various phases of improvement. If you have any thoughts or questions, please let us know!

Why people are your best sustainability driver

Dan sets the scene for a common problem that leaders face in this post: how to respond when their business is faced with significant challenges to its sustainability? He challenges a common default management position of "controlling the controllable" (e.g. fixed cost and headcount reductions) and introduces the power of adaptive challenge thinking.

Traditional lean thinking applied differently

Improvement (lean) initiatives can be delivered efficiently and sustainably! In this post, we unpack our approach to running lean engagements in short, continuous cycles through the application of agile principles and techniques. The key ingredients are close collaboration with our clients and their customers, continuous reflection and learning, and a structured delivery process.
